A few precious moments to myself ~~ it’s not always this easy to capture ~~ and it is the perfect opportunity to make a wise decision. Do I go shopping? Do I watch a movie? Do I curl up with a book? Do I dive into social media?
The options are so many ~~ we live in a world just filled with things to do and places to go. It’s no wonder that we can get so easily distracted. I’ve gone into a store with the ‘mindset‘ to buy one particular item, only to emerge an hour later with bags (yes, plural) in my arms. Loading them into my car, I have asked myself, “How did this happen?”
Distractions ~~ like sugar cravings ~~ once you satisfy one (that’s all it takes), it’s all over!
My mind was not set.
If my mind were set, there would have been no room for a mental negotiation. Ok, am I the only person who has a one-on-one dialogue with herself? Please holler back at me!
Had my mind been settled before my activities began, I would not have succumbed to the temptation to buy extra items.
Let’s go one step further ~~ had my mind been set, the ‘distracting temptation’ would not have been an issue.
The ‘distractions’ can manifest in a multitude of ways, Girlfriend. They usually enter your corner and my corner of the world in a very subtle manner. And that’s where the battle silently begins. The mind seed is planted.
Whether it is an actual person, place, or activity ~~ if it doesn’t align with God’s Purpose for our lives, that ‘distraction’ ~~ mind seed ~~ if watered by complacency will slowly yield the weeds that will choke off the life we are meant to live.
Time to take an inventory, Girlfriend ~~ what things in our lives need to be uprooted so that our mind is set on the things of God for His Kingdom?
Isaiah 26:3 You will keep the peace, a perfect peace, for all who trust in You, for those who dedicate their hearts and minds to You.
I love you to Heaven and Back ~~
