“Just Between Me and You”

I recently posted this on Facebook with the following words:

The Best thing to do: “walk away.”

Avoid entertaining the temptation to twirl the baton of other people’s business or information that does not directly apply to you. It will spare you the necessity of an embarrassing apology and prevent destroying relationships.

And in an “instant,” the “likes” came pouring in!  Whenever this happens on social media, specifically something that includes a Scripture verse, I tend to think that the hearts of women are beating on this right now because of a very recent experience.

From one angle, I can visualize the disappointment and hurt of a soul that’s been wounded by the gossiping words of those who may have pretended to be her friends.  Maybe some personal information was entrusted to another and the leaky faucet turned into a full waterfall of speculations and assumptions ~~ none of which may have even been remotely true.

From another angle, I can visualize the concerned friend that misdirected her care and concern and shared her thoughts with another individual who shared it with another who shared it with another and on and on it traveled. And very possibly it found its way back to the one for whom all the fuss surrounded ~~ only to add injury to the existing wound.

Why do we create such chaos in our already chaotic lives? Boredom … Loneliness … Revenge … Anger … Pride …

I’m sure there are countless reasons that could be shouted out to justify spreading information about others.  However it’s done, it’s usually destructive and counterproductive.

Our Scripture verse in Proverbs warns us of the breaking up of friendships.  As women, we have the capability of rallying up people for good causes and fundraisers and awareness on various topics.  And yet, with the same power and strength, we can tear down relationships in a few mere seconds of our breath.

Over the years, as I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with large groups of people, I’ve experienced this to be true.  And I’ve come to the conclusion that whenever the enemy seizes the opportunity to plant thoughts of pride into the mind of any individual, the misconception that they can rise above or have an advantage over another person is when this craziness begins to stir. Seeking an advantage over another person, in an effort to feel bigger, brighter, better ~~ at something ~~ might satisfy for a split second, but quickly passes until the next opportunity.

Proverbs 16:24 Kind words are like honey—sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.

So why are we NOT doing more of this ~~ spreading kind words about others? Now THAT would be an interesting shift ~~ murmurings of sweet words about people you wouldn’t necessarily invite to dinner!  Imagine the whispers in the back of the room, “Just between me and you, she’s a great woman!”  Hit the stopwatch on that ~~ it won’t travel beyond the listening ears of the recipient.  Why? Because it’s counteracting the enemy’s  plans of defeat and destroy.

Proverbs 18:6-8 Fools’ words get them into constant quarrels; they are asking for a beating. The mouths of fools are their ruin; they trap themselves with their lips. Rumors are dainty morsels that sink deep into one’s heart.

That passage comes straight from the Word of God and I’d say it settles the matter.

It’s no secret, Girlfriend ~~ we need each other.  God created us to uplift, encourage, and build up each other while we journey on this side of Paradise.

John 13:34-35 So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”

I know life can sometimes kick us in the teeth, leave us bruised and worn out, at times lonely and feeling forgotten.  But it is still the opportunity to rise above our circumstances by loving those in our sphere of influence.  Easy? Not!  Overnight results? In your dreams. Possible with God? Absolutely!

Just between me and you, Girlfriend, the more effort we put into our relationship with The Lord, the energy that we would otherwise spend on talking about others will be directed and invested in time spent in prayer on behalf of others.

I love you to Heaven and Back ~~

I'm a GOD Girl that desires to fulfill the Purpose that He has breathed into her heart: to bring up the ones coming up behind her. Titus 2 encourages women like me to reach out beyond our comfort zones and become transparent and vulnerable for the sake of those who want more of GOD and to walk closer with Him. A perfect past is not mine to speak of -- I don't even know what that is -- but I DO know the One Who holds my future, and He has redeemed me from the hurts of yesterday to give me a hope for tomorrow.
